"Evergreen" is a pop song, co-written by Jörgen Elofsson, Per Magnusson and David Kreuger, and originally recorded by Westlife. The song was made famous by Pop Idol UK series 1 winner Will Young.
The song was performed on Pop Idol in the final by both Young and Gates. Young went on to win the show, and released "Evergreen" as a double A-side single, along with "Anything is Possible", which was also recorded by the final three and performed by the final two. The single went straight to the number one spot in the UK Singles Chart and stayed there for three consecutive weeks. It became the fastest-selling debut in UK chart history, selling 403,027 copies on its day of release. It went on to sell over 1.7 million copies and in the official list of the all-time best-selling singles in the UK issued later that year, it appeared 11th. It is also the best-selling single of the 21st century in the United Kingdom so far.
The song was included on Young's debut album, From Now On

A cover of a Westlife album track, is corny and it's clichéd, but its faux-inspirational lyrics and "stand up for the key change" power ballad sound has become the template for every talent contest winner...its lesser known double A-side, "Anything Is Possible," is less successful.

His [Will’s] victory lap was the double-headed Anything Is Possible/Evergreen, the debut single laid down for whoever won the battle to be made into a star - and he doesn't sound entirely comfortable with this sweet, candied pop. It was still a mammoth number one smash.
