The Return of Sir William of Young: Kicking it big willie style
There are several things I will constantly love without question - the music of Abba; Wicked the book by Gregory Maguire; every single episode of Buffy (even the crap ones); and of course a select bunch of current music acts that never fail to delight me. Pop Idol winner (though it seems so futile to quote that now - he's far surpassed all expectations of a 9 year old win) William of Young is one of those acts. Some of my favourite songs of the past 10 years happen to belong to Will (Your Game; Switch It On; Love The One You're With; Let It Go) and I've been waiting impatiently for him to return with something that was instantly sparkling, classy and glorious. I have not been disappointed...
Jealousy is the first single from William's fifth studio album, Echoes (out in August - check Popjustice for an exciting preview of the work) that premiered on radio 2 today. In what is turning out to be a stellar year for accomplished, quality, considered bloke-pop (see also Darren Hayes; Bright Light Bright Light), Will (and producer Richard X) have raised the bar with this genuinely beautiful tune. It's definitely an early morning chill out club track without having to resort to all the whistles and bells of samples/guest rappers, etc. William's vocal shines (as you would expect) from start to finish over a gorgeous percolating beat that completely complements the vocal allowing the track to soar. There are some lovely vocal touches throughout - for example, it's hard not to feel a bit swoony when he literally purrs that he is down on his knees. On Popjustice they say it's the perfect comedown album and this single is sterling evidence of that. It's essentially a whole new William but being introduced to us in a way that means this is not jarring or a shock for long term fans; indeed it's a lovely transition single. It's William's The Flood (Take That).
All hail Sir William. Long may he reign.
Ten years into his career, William has become that rare popstar that continually evolves but with a firm grasp on what elements of his career have determined his success and an eye on a quality output. His latest return single Jealousy was a charmer from start to finish...

Here’s a little something for Will Young fans – wrap your lugholes around the Pop Idol winner's brand new single. Jealousy – which will be out on 21 August – starts off like a piano-y ballad but soon some bassy, club beats kick in. It’s actually a slightly different sound for Will, but we rather like what’s going on, so well done Mr Young.

The original production job on 'Jealousy' - at once powerful and understated, electronic but pulsing with natural beauty - is all very well but there are times in life when all you really want is a 0%-subtle dancefloor raveathon and that is what The Alias have turned in here.
Obviously it still has Will's emotional 'n' lovely vocals, though, so it's still the same song. Which is just a well. As our dear old grandma used to say, "if it hasn't got any of the vocals in, it's not really a remix at all it's just a load of f...ing rubbish someone's knocked off in an afternoon for £1500". She was a wise woman.

Will is a nice boy. He’ll always be thought of as ‘one for the mums’ with his brand of middle of the road pop which, over the last decade, has had quite a few brilliant moments.
Moving away from your typical mid-tempo piano ballad with his recent Fred Falke remixes and AMAZING Groove Armada collaboration, his new single and album have been produced by Richard X. He is a genius. Providing sparkly disco moments for Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Rachel Stevens, Annie and Roisin Murphy to name a few.
Jealousy is just great. Elegant and sad it’s brilliant heartbreaking pop.

Everyone's favourite (and the first-ever) Pop Idol Will Young has just premiered on UK radio his new single "Jealousy", the first to be lifted from highly anticipated new album "Echoes", produced by renowned producer Richard X. "Echoes" will be Will's fifth studio album and seems set to mark a major comeback for the singer, who has already sold in excess of 8 million albums worldwide.
In all honesty, it's Will Young (!!!) over a pulsating beat (!!!).
It's clubby without actually telling you to take your clothes off or get on tha floaaaaar.
It's really good (!!!).

After finishing a 5 album deal with Sony and approaching his tenth year in the music business (OMG was Pop Idol THAT long ago?!), Will Young is about to release his best and most surprising album to date. The first single, Jealousy, recieved its first play today and it is awesome. Its heartfelt, emotional yet without needing to be a slushy ballad. Working with Richard X for this song and the whole album, Will’s new era is clearly going to be full of very special things.

Will Young has premiered his amazing new single, Jealousy. The song is the first to be lifted from his forthcoming Richard X produced fifth studio album, Echoes, out August 22nd. Jealousy is not only the strongest single of Young’s already impressive career, but the mesmerizing electro piano ballad is one of the best singles to emerge this year.

First single Jealousy a stately, radio-friendly slice of polite dance music with a fantastic vocal. It will sound amazing on Radio 2, and we mean that in a good way.

Will Young, oh I forgot how good you are.
We haven’t heard much from the pop/soul singer since his baby popping Hopes and Fears video and Groove Armada collaboration, but now the Think I Better Leave Right Now sensation is getting ready to release his fifth studio album Echoes on August 22nd(the 10th anniversary of his first Pop Idol audition.) To kick things off, the first single from the set Jealousy premiered on BBC Radio 2 today and like all Young’s material it is gorgeous.
It begins with Will’s soft, delicate voice showcased over a timid piano solo carrying lightweight beats . Then, at about the 30 second mark it is all goes very soft dance as the chorus begins to make way for spacey electronica and a synthesised melody as he sings And it feels like jealousy/And it feels like I can’t breathe/And I’m on, down on my knees/And it feels like jealousy.
The production is perfected so that it is not too overpowering and his vocals shine through. This is not like any ordinary dance ballad though. It is elegant, confident and warm. Everything a comedown track should be.
As ever his music always holds up.
Pop Music Magic Rating: 4/5
Enjoy!

We must admit we have always had a crush on this Pop Idol. One of our fav albums by Will Young was Friday’s Child, if you have never heard it buy it NOW!
Well the Brit pop boy is back with his fifth studio album Echoes produced by the fabulous Richard X and filled with Will’s soulful voice and chilled dance beats. First single to be released is Jealousy, playing to his fantastic vocals and similar tone to that of the Groove Armada track back in 2010 History.
We are loving the track already. Love you Will!

Like politics, dogs and Cher, Time seems to affect The Music Industry differently to how it affects normal human beings. A year in human terms is like a decade in the music world; sounds, styles and genres continually boom in and out of fashion, while an endless litter of new artists bounce eagerly onto the scene to nip at the ankles of established acts. Artists who take a year out to write a new album soon feel like they’ve been gone forever *COUGH* La Roux *COUGH*, while Lady Gaga’s almost continuous presence in the charts since her debut in 2009 makes it feel like she’s been knocking around far longer than her relatively short two years.
For an artist to be celebrating ten years in the industry is therefore quite a big deal- the kind of big deal where your Nan puts Corrie on mute for twenty minutes and gets out the fondant fancies and Babysham. When that artist is a TV talent show winner who managed to maintain a career during a decade which saw the industry morph into something almost unrecognisable from its pre millennium incarnation, AND do it with the same record label he first signed to, AND still be achieving platinum album sales, it’s nothing short of amazing.
Yes, prepare to feel old- this month marks exactly ten years since an unknown Will Young first ambled politely into a Pop idol audition and sang ‘Blame It On The Boogie’ in front of an equally unknown Simon Cowell. Young went on to win Pop Idol in February 2002, and while the careers of most of his talent show contemporaries soon went to that Big Karaoke Bar in the sky, Young’s distinctive style and sound soon garnered a loyal fan base who appeared to stick by him as social networking saw the industry fragment into a series of smaller sub genres with smaller sales. During his ten years in the industry he’s managed to sell eight million albums worldwide, and while his last few single sales have been disappointingly low (representing a wider trend in the industry as a whole), his album sales have continued to perform well– each one achieving platinum status.
So what do you do if you’re Will Young and want to celebrate your tenth birthday in the music biz? Down your own weight in WKD and end up sprawled in your own vomit outside a cash point while singing Swagger Jagger to alarmed bystanders?? OF COURSE NOT. This is Will Young, and he’s been very sensibly writing his new album ‘Echoes’, along with producer Richard X and a team of co writers which reads like a modern pop fans wet dream: Sound of Arrows, Groove Armada and Fred Falke to name but a few.
The first single to be released from the album is ‘Jealousy’- a beautiful ‘tears on the dance floor’ electro ballad about unrequited love and the slightly creepy stalker tendencies it can induce. The departure from Young’s usual sound is striking; dance edged and synth heavy, ‘Jealousy’ is Young’s mission statement for the next phase of his career- having the confidence to make music which he genuinely loves while still maintaining a commercial edge. Having written or co-written every song on Echoes it also feels like this could be his most personal album to date, and while a change in direction is always a risk, now feels like the right time for him to take it.

There's nothing like launching an album campaign with a full frontal picture of yourself dressed eyebrow-raisingly in fetching white lycra. Especially if you have a nickname that rhymes with your actual name. While some onlookers doubtless will be suffering pangs of jealousy at how snugly Will Young fits into his striking outfit, the song itself - the first taste of upcoming album Echoes - marks a change of direction for the sometime talent contest winner whose career over the last decade now surely transcends such associations.
Young's Groove Armada collaboration History and some tasty Fred Falke remixes - especially of Tell Me The Worst - hinted at things to come. Now, Jealousy continues Young's embracing of gossamer-smooth electropop, sounding like a missing harmony for Robyn's Dancing On My Own and highlighting a beautifully delivered pop vocal.
