Will has featured in numerous programmes, mainly though not solely in the UK - here is a selection:
Radio:
Will has put in some amazing performances on BBC Radio's Live Lounge over the years including his moving cover of "Hey Ya!".
In 2004 Will performed a concert for BBC Radio 2 which included in addition to his own material, great covers of "Go To Hell", "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" - sung with huge emotion, and "Welcome To The Club".
Will has performed live for various radio shows over the years, including the Ken Bruce and Dermot O’Leary shows. As well as several stunning performances (often acoustic) of his own songs, other notable live radio performances include covers of "They Can't Take That Away From Me", "Blame It On The Sun", "Don’t Cha" - sung in his own inimitable way, “Golden Slumbers” , “Ever Fallen In Love” and an emotional performance of “Running Up That Hill”. Other covers to be given Will’s unique touch were “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” and "Hanging On The Telephone".
Will is a fan of Joan Armatrading and in April 2009 he sang a lovely cover of her song "Show Some Emotion" for 'The Great British Songbook', one of a set of programmes celebrating British songwriters. A video of Will's performance and an accompanying interview can be viewed on the Radio 2 website.
In 2010, part of Will's summer tour set featured in the Radio 2 'In Concert' programme broadcast in July that year. In 2011, part of Will’s Echoes tour set featured in the Radio 2 ‘In Concert’ programme broadcast in December that year. Will sang a wonderful acoustic versions of “Come On” and “Bang Bang” for BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour in November 2011.
Will has also performed sets for commercial radio over the years and in December 2011 sang the seasonal cover “This Christmas” for Magic FM.
Acting - Will had his first role in a radio drama for Radio 4 when he played Joshua in ‘Mary Toft’s Rabbit Tale’ which aired in April 2011.
In March 2012, BBC Radio 4 broadcast Will's insightful documentary "There Is Business Like Showbusiness" in which he explored the world of industrial musicals. Also in March, Will headlined the Wave 105 Live gig held at the BIC in Bournemouth.
Television:
Will has sung on a variety of shows for example CD:UK in the early years of his career, Top of the Pops, the music channels and mainstream TV. Will has also appeared on TV music shows in Europe and the USA. ‘A Night with Will Young’ - an ITV music special was first shown on UK TV on 27th August 2011.
Will has featured on a diversity of programmes from Parkinson to Top Gear (as the star in a reasonably priced car); he’s been a panellist on Question Time twice (February 2009 & March 2012) and had an episode of The South Bank Show dedicated to him with a fly-on-the-wall documentary. Will guest-hosted an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
Documentaries - in November 2004, Will presented ‘Runaways’ during the 25th year of Children in Need. As part of the ‘Saving the Planet’ series, Will travelled to Africa to report on the plight of the lowland gorilla – the film was shown in June 2007.
Acting - In February 2010, Will played the part of the enigmatic Dr Love in an episode of 'Skins' on British TV. In January 2011 Will had a cameo role as Casey Croft in 'Marple: The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side' and Will played Ryan McAllister in spooky ‘Bedlam’ which aired in the UK in February/March 2011.
