Paul Flynn, The Guardian
There is one killer ballad [Let It Go] which will resonate with any me-generation twentysomething break-up, gay or straight.

The third single from his album of the same name has another weird and wonderful video to accompany it. This time round, Will's dressed as some sort of superhero who roams the streets and gets up to mischief after being thrown out of a party!

I've always kind of liked Will Young's tracks, mostly the upbeat ones such as 'Your Game', 'Switch It On' and the recent 'Grace'. I'm not such a fan of the slower ones he brings out. His voice is great but his energy in the up-tempo tracks is far paramount. This third single from his current album of the same name will be his last physical release, as everyone is now going digital. I'm not totally bowled over by it. It feels more like an album track than a single to take on the charts with, but no doubt it'll be a success.

You’d think that Will Young's people would be a bit more cautionary about what they chose as his next single.... whilst the title track from his new album is a beautiful, wonderfully sung number that is indeed a highlight of the album, I just feel it won't stand up well on its own commercially. Then again I could be wrong.

The opening bars are immediately reminiscent of the singer's 2003 hit Leave Right Now', with a gentle lullaby of guitar and piano working harmoniously to weave a rich, cockle-warming tapestry of soulful thread. Though clearly intended as a ballad, the sound builds steadily throughout in Young's signature style, providing the perfect backdrop for a fine demonstration of his impressive vocal breadth.
Lyrically, even the most syrupy of drawls like "could I ever be the man I promised I would be and support you tenderly" are delivered with the kind of sweet finesse such a mellifluous croon ought to lend. One of his most beautiful offerings to date, Let It Go looks set to ensure Will Young's number isn't up just yet.
